Extract from the diary of Lt Charles Brockbank, 1st Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

Monday. It rained hard all today, but in spite of this we started off for a little practice in war tactics. We had to give it up in the end because of the rain, so marched back and had a lecture from Major Herse on “What we ought to know with regards to Active Service” and all that sort of thing. It was very interesting.
