Extract from the official war diary of the 2nd Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

MERRIS.

11am The Battn. Left MERRIS and formed up the Brigade at ROUGE CROIX from which place it proceeded by motor bus convoy to YPRES. Officers with Bn. Major STONE (Commanding) Capts. HUGHES, TURNER, HILL (Adjutant), MORTON, SAVAGE, MALLINSON (Transport Officer) MAXWELL. Lieuts. WILL (Machine Gun Officer) NASON, VILLIERS-STUART ANDREWS, NEWINGTON, WATSON, LAW, 2 Lieuts. KEATING WARD, G. KEATING. Lt. & Q. M. COWAN. Vapt. [sic (Capt.)] McEWEN R.A.M.C.
The transport under Capt. MALLINSON left the previous evening.

6pm Arrived at VLAMERTINGE where tea rations & ammunition was issued.

8pm Marched to YPRES.

11pm Left YPRES by march to take over trenches from French. Head Quarters established VERBODEN MOLEN.
