Extract from the diary of Lt Charles Brockbank, 1st Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

charles brockbank

Tuesday. Orders have just come through for us to move up again to the line today, into the same part as last time, for six days, not for like previous times. I am in the same part as before but it has been altered so much I can hardly recognise it. It was very misty all night so the men had to “stand to” for a long time as you could not see twenty yards away. Our patrol was a nerve racking one as you expected to bump into the Ger one at any moment.
