Extract from the official war diary of the 2nd Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

2pm The Bn was called out to support 1st Suffolk Regt at 2.0 pm owing to a Heavy German attack on left in which asphyxiating gas was used for the first time against us.   Batt. lay in field in support – behind FREZENBURG all afternoon.

Relief cancelled.15 men were wounded by shell fire
