Extract from the official war diary of the 1st Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

Bn in Brigade Reserve – ½  Bn: working party during the night. At about 5.30 pm: the dug outs were shelled by a heavy gun, and from S.W. direction, causing 28 casualties (11 killed 15 wounded).  Moved after dark into casemates in ramparts of YPRES and ECOLE DE BIENFAISANCE just outside – ½ battalion in each, and headquarters at the school. ½ bn working party. 2/Lt Richardson slightly wounded.
