Extract from the official war diary of the 2nd Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

10 pm ZONNEBEKE

The whole line of troops occupying the YPRES salient was withdrawn to a fresh line of trenches in order to make the salient much less pronounced. In the trenches occupied by the Battalion at ZONNEBEKE one officer (Lieut Newman) with 30 other ranks remained in occupation to cover the withdrawal of the Battalion which was carried out without any casualties.

The new line of trenches running just East of FREZENBURG were occupied by the following other units of 84 Inf Bde. 1 Suffolk Rg. 1 Welsh Rg. 1 Monmouth Regt.

The Battalion then occupied the Reserve dugouts in the G.H.Q. Line POTIJZE
