Extract from the official war diary of the 2nd Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

BRANDHOEK

4am Battalion called out (Captain G. R. Barton having assumed command) and proceeded to YPRES following line of railway south of town and thence into trenches in Square 1.10 (Sheet 28 1/40000) from which an attack was made on enemy’s trenches about midnight.  Battalion was subjected to a withering shell fire in the morning while advancing over open ground.
