Extract from the official war diary of the 159th Infantry Brigade

Suvla Bay Kuchuk Kemikli Point

Orders of an attack on 105 D8 in conjunction with the 158th Inf Bde received at 4.00 am. Had no information of whereabouts of this Brigadier. The most that could be done was to five orders to CO’s of three of our Battalions who however were not in a position to say where their Battalions were except the 4th Welsh Regt. Art 6.00 the Troops advanced and passed through the trench of the 32nd Inf Bde. The attack progressed very slowly with little or no cohesion. It was finally held up about 8.35 am. About noon a retrograde movement began in the left centre but was stopped bu some men of the 5th and 7th Welsh Fusiliers on the left and 4th and 7th Cheshire on the right.

Further assault was ordered at 5 pm but owing to the inextricable confusion of Units it was impossible to d more than to tell the leading line to advance at 5.0 o’clock. The attack was badly supported by lines in rear and eventually failed. The troops occupied trenches originally held by 32nd Brigade already exhausted by want of food and water.
