Extract from the war diary of Lt Charles Brockbank, 1st Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

Sunday.  This morning there was a lot of gun-fire off the cliffs & out to sea, trying to explode floating mines, as several were seen. I had to stay in ’til 5.0 p.m. as all the others were out & then I saw a Catholic procession. I have sevendays [sic] leave, hope it comes off
