Extract from the diary of Norman Hughes, “B” Coy, 1/4th Ches. Regt. 53rd (Welsh) Division

[Norman Hughes came from Neston. In Gallipoli with the 4th Bn]

In Support Trenches.

Make a trench for drinking water. First 2 wells dry, but find it at last after much tramping.

Men have a good tea.

Shelled early in the morning. Drummer Boy injured.

Thou of Life, the Fountain art

Let me freely take of thee.

Moving to Firing Line 7.30 P.M.
