Extract from the war diary of Lt Charles Brockbank, 1st Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

Thursday.  Went to try & meet Dora Lawson at the Paris trains. I met five but had no luck. It is one of the funniest sites I have seen. The French porters trying to get passengers luggage through the Customs. I stood & watched for over an hour & enjoyed it immensely. Frank White & Jimmy Hoyle turned up here, Hoyle going on leave & White going to give as many of us as is possible, a machine gun course.
