Thursday  Still short handed. On night & morning. Everyone got wind up last night because of mist. Sent out a patrol & reported O.K. Rain again in morning. Awful bombardment on ridge at midday. Saw our troops come over the ridge from Thiepval. Staff captain from 2nd Div. came in at lunch time –  Intending to push on here. We shall be holding the line. No rest!
