Extract from the war diary of Lt Charles Brockbank, 1st Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

Tuesday.  We could not do anything this morning because the Divn. Comdr. of the Transport was going to inspect our Transport so they took all our limbers full. This afternoon the rain put a stop to our Battn . Route March & we are working on the guns in the billets. The inspection turned out to be a washout. The Divisional Cross-country Run is on today, I wonder how our men will go on, I hope they put up a good show. All our 42 men came home in the first 200 so we feel very bucked as there were 1250 entries for the Run
