Extract from the war diary of Lt Charles Brockbank, 1st Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

Saturday.  Nothing doing today. It rained all this afternoon so put the lid on the parade. This evening we had a lecture on the “Smoke Helmet” & their uses by Capt. Morris R.A.M.C. (a Cheshire man) & it really was very interesting. A horse died just outside my billet so there was a bit of excitement for a few minutes.
