5 February 1916

Extract from the diary of Harrison Johnston, 15th (Service) Battalion, Cheshire Regiment, 105th Infantry Brigade, 35th Division

C.O. paid us a visit in the afternoon when we had just finished close order drill and were started bathing. I got a huge tub and we had it in the shed – boiled the water in the cookers and all the men had a nice hot bath with disinfectant in it. They got in three at a time!

One of our chaps shot a mule on Friday (a Z company sentry). The mule did not halt when challenged, so it was shot in the leg.
