Extract from the war diary of Lt Charles Brockbank, 1st Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

Tuesday.  We were inspected this morning by the Divn Comdr. who was very decent, asking all sorts of questions & he was pretty keen on everything. We were given a little talk, too, after, which was rot, but he strikes me as being a jolly fine chap. I went into AIRE for some dubbin for my boots although I am expecting some from Mr Norris at BOULOGNE.  Awfully hot today. A Taube flew over us just before we got to the inspection ground but it did not drop any bombs.
