Extract from the official war diary of 6th Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

Trenches

Weather very fine, patrols sent out in early morning report German trench weakly held, a fair amount of sniping going on, and occasional shelling, Germans putting some heavy Shells on LAVANTIE our artillery retaliating on AUBERS. Very heavy bombardment in evening from 6.30 till 7pm. Casualties one man killed ten OR wounded (one died since).   3 OR to hospital Sick
