Extract from the official war diary of 6 thBn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

HINGETTE

Battn moved from Billets & relieved 11th Royal SUSSEX Rgt in right hand sub-sector of GIVENCHY sector having on the left the 1/1 HERTS Regt & on the right the 33rd Division.  7 Platoons in the firing line, remainder in Keeps & in GIVENCHY village.  Distance from enemy 30 yds on left spreading out to 250 yds on right.   Right company stopped on N. Bank of LA BASSÉE Canal. Trenches fairly good but much knocked about especially on left by mining. Much bombing activity on both sides here. As far as can be ascertained Saxons occupy enemy trenches.  6 OR admitted to hospital 100 OR. draft from 9 Entrenching Battalion arrived & were distributed amongst companies.
