Extract from the diary of Lt B H Gregg, 5th Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

[Lt Gregg joined up in August 1914 in Chester. He survived the war and died aged 102 in Canada.]

Sat Battalion marched at 4 p.m. Later there was a halt for tea. SOUASTRE was reached at 10 p.m. The evening  was cold & windy. Our billet was in a rather low estaminet. Farewell to the luxury of sheets as the sleeping bags were used now.
