Extract from the official war diary of 1st Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

Quiet day.  Capt. C.C. PATTERSON fell down the steps of a deep dug-out and was admitted to hospital with a fractured rib.  Capt. E.V. ALLEN took over command of “B” Company.  One Company of 12th GLOUCESTERSHIRES came up at night to assist in work.  Bodies of two Germans killed in front of our trenches on night of 4th were brought in.  G.O.C. 5th Divn. (Major-Gen. STEPHENS) visited the trenches in the morning.
