Extract from the official war dairy of the 1st Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

VILLE-SUR-ANCRE. – MAMETZ.

Battalion preparing to move at short notice.  LT.COL. M.F. CLARKE went up to trenches in the morning.  At 3.0 p.m. Battn. Left VILLE under command of CAPT. BAKER and marched via MEAULTE – FRICOURT – MAMETZ.  Battn. Had tea in the old “NO MAN’S LAND” on the FRICOURT – MAMETZ road.  Battn. Were bivouacked for the night in an old german trench between MAMETZ and MONTAUBAN, on the POMMIER RIDGE.  Bde HQ in POMMIER REDOUBT.  Extra bombs and S.A.A. issued out.
