19 August 1916

Extract from the official war diary of the 11th Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

The Brigade Major gave lecture to all officers on the organisation of working parties, and on the same day the Battalion moved to HEDAUVILLE where half th 2 Companies went into billets and 2 Companies into HUTMENTS  – the officers being accommodated in tents. Thus the Battalion once more visited its the village it stayed in on the eventful July 1st. During its brief stay at HEDAUVILLE every endeavour was made to push on the training, but alas the time allowed for this very necessary work was all too short and on the 22nd the Battalion relieved the 8th Border Regt in bivouacs in AVELUY WOOD.  Among The thoughts of all the remaining original 11th Batt men flew back to July 2nd but this time the stay in AVELUY was destined to be of greater duration.
