Extract from the official war diary of the 1st Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

Very fine day.  Working party under Lt Mason in slit trenches in morning had severe time with gas shells.  One casualty.  Brigade parade in morning.  Corps Commander XVth Corps General Holms presented ribbons to officers and men awarded decorations.  In afternoon received orders to relieve 14th Warwicks ‘A’ & ‘B’ Coys in front line, ‘C’ & ‘D’ in support.  Battalion moved at 7.30 P.M.  Many gas shells.
