Extract from the official war diary of the 1st Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment


Two new officers arrived: – 2nd Lieut W.K. CLARKE and 2nd Lieut J.H. HOPE.  Brigade O.O No64 received, stating that 5th Division would relieve 6th Division to-night, and that the 15th  and 95th Brigades would be the left and right Brigades respectively, this Battalion to be in support

Haversacks dumped and extra rations issued.  Commanding Officer reconnoitred trenches after arranging to meet the Battalion on way up.

6.20pm First Company moved off to point of assembly on road S. of GINCHY.  Track in very muddy and bad state, but relief eventually complete by 10:45pm.  The Bosche threw over a considerable number of heavy shells which inflicted a few more casualties.
