Extract from the official war diary of the 6th Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

Beaumont Hamel trenches

Weather inclement, causing numerous falls of earth in the various trenches.  Fatigue parties engaged day and night clearing up and draining.  Also sinking sump pits and laying trench boards.           Enemy shelled front lines heavily with H.E. damaging parapets in places.

6 OR rejoined from Hospital.                   2nd Lieuts J T CHORLTON and P.S. CHATTERWAY joined.

2 OR admitted hospital sick.  8 OR reinforcements joined.
