Extract from the official war diary of the 1st Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

Trenches

3.30am

All Companies reported in place near GUILLEMONT.  Bn. Hdqrs at T 19 c 8/9.  Still raining.  Troops very worn out and wet and of no fighting value.

  Operation Order No 67 received.  Brigade Major came in during the afternoon and discussed further plans.

  Roads very heavy going, but weather fine and men busy improving their bivouacs.

  Transport very difficult.  2nd Lieut G.H. MACLEAN arrived from Transport
