Extract from the official war diary of the 9th Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment
The enemy shelled front line and HESSIAN TRENCH several times during the day. The enemy’s fire appears to come from LOUPART WOOD principally. One of our listening posts fired on a German patrol of 10 men and saw two fall. The enemy appear to be decidedly nervous and he put up frequent 4.2 barrages during the day. Lt. W. EVANS was badly wounded in the head and legs.
